Don and Dianne Young, Franklin, Tenn., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner hosted by their children Aug. 25 at Starker's Restaurant in Kansas City, Mo. They were married Aug. 23, 1957, in Wichita. They lived in Lawrence from 1981 to 2001. Don worked as a lineman and supervisor for electric companies in Minnesota, Colorado and Kansas. He also worked for Western Resources in Lawrence and retired in 2001. Their children are Ken Young, Fort Collins, Colo.; Dawn Wilson, Pleasant View, Tenn.; and David Young, Lawrence. They have eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Richard and Barbara Nelson, Lawrence, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary today. They were married Sept. 1, 1957, in Salina. They have lived in Lawrence for more than 30 years. Richard worked at Kansas University for 32 years and retired in May 2007. Barbara was employed at the Lawrence Urology Clinic and also retired in May.
