Don and Dianne Young, Franklin, Tenn., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner hosted by their children Aug. 25 at Starker's Restaurant in Kansas City, Mo. They were married Aug. 23, 1957, in Wichita. They lived in Lawrence from 1981 to 2001. Don worked as a lineman and supervisor for electric companies in Minnesota, Colorado and Kansas. He also worked for Western Resources in Lawrence and retired in 2001. Their children are Ken Young, Fort Collins, Colo.; Dawn Wilson, Pleasant View, Tenn.; and David Young, Lawrence. They have eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Bishop and Barbara Millar were married Sept. 7, 1957, at the First Congregational Church in LaGrange, Ill. Kenneth is a professor emeritus in Kansas University's department of chemical and petroleum engineering. They have lived in Lawrence for 42 years. Their daughter, Susie McKinney, and her husband, Scott, joined the Bishops on their trip, along with the McKinney's four children, Kaitlin, Keegan, Logan and Liam.

Jim and Kay Henry, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Oct. 5, 1957, in Yokohama, Japan, while Jim served in the U.S. Navy. Jim earned a doctorate in education from Kansas University, where he was employed for 30 years. He retired as director of placement for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' Placement Division. He spent nearly 32 years in active and reserve duty in the Navy, serving as a pilot and intelligence officer. He retired with the rank of captain. He served on the Lawrence City Commission from 1999 to 2003, and was mayor in 2000-2001. Kay worked for the Adams Alumni Center at KU for more than 20 years and served as senior vice president for human resources and administration. She also worked at KU in the School of Fine Arts and the School of Occupational Health and Medicine. Their children are Barb Henry, Westwood, N.J., and Jenny McWilliams, Clinton, Mo. Virgil Allen Auchard Jr. and Jeanette Marie Hadl were married Sept. 5, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence, with the Rev. Alfred Beil officiating. The couple are graduates of Lawrence High School. Allen received his medical degree from Ohio State University in 1959 and interned at White Cross Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He practiced family medicine in Bucyrus for more than 30 years and was a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. Allen's father, Dr. Virgil Auchard Sr., was a physician in Lawrence for several decades. Jeanette was a supervisor in the Office of Radiology at the OSU Hospital in the early 1950s and was a medical assistant and secretary for the chief of allergy at OSU in the late '50s. Their children are Stephen Auchard, Bucyrus, and Annette Holliday, Sacramento, Calif. They have three grandchildren.
