Couples announcements November 10, 2007




Robert and Erma Porter, Lawrence, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Robert Porter and Erma Axe were married Nov. 10, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. Robert graduated from De Soto High School. He worked for 45 years at Kansas University and retired as associate director of facilities maintenance. Erma graduated from Lawrence High School and worked for 35 years at Kansas University in facilities and in the athletic department. Their daughter is Deb Porter, Lawrence.



Ron and Barbara J. Evilsizor, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family brunch Nov. 25 in Leawood. Their daughter, Barbara, and her husband, Condrad Miller Jr., will host the event. Ron Evilsizor and Barbara J. Madl Barlow were married Nov. 8, 1957, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence, with Monsignor George Towle officiating. Ron was employed as an agent for New York Life Insurance Co. of New York from 1957 until his retirement in October 1998. Barbara has worked as a beautician for more than 50 years in Lawrence. Their children are Jerry F. Barlow and his wife Mary, Cherokee, Iowa, and Barbara Jan Miller and husband Conrad, Leawood. They have four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The couple request no gifts.



Raymond and Mary Schimmel celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a family lunch at Coyote Canyon in Topeka. Raymond Schimmel and Mary Legon were married Nov. 8, 1967, at Emmanual Lutheran Church in Lawrence. Raymond worked at Lawrence Sanitary Dairy and All-Star Dairy for 32 years as a retail salesman and as a toll collector for the Kansas Turnpike Authority for 13 years. Mary worked for 18 years at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka. They have four children, Rose, Randy, and Ralph, of Lawrence and Rhonda Miller, of Topeka, and two granddaughters.


Wiles and Nowak

Kaci Wiles and Jared Nowak were married Sept. 8, 2007, at the home of Curtis and Marilyn Hall in Lawrence, with Joe Wood officiating. The bride is the daughter of Steven R. and Carolyn Wiles, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Allen and Patricia Nowak, Ithaca, Mich. Maid of honor was Catelin Carey. Best man was Jeromy Manser. Bridesmaids were Jamie Hays, Katy Toplikar and Megan Cooper. Groomsmen were Derek Wideman, Joe Vernon and Ryan Smaltz. Ushers were Tommy Wiles and Joseph Wiles. A reception was given at Alvamar Country Club. Kaci graduated from Lawrence High School and received an Associate of Applied Science in interior design at Johnson County Community College. She is employed as property administrator for Colliers Bennett & Kahnweiler. Jared graduated from Ithaca High School and received a Bachelor of Science in sports management and business at the University of Michigan. He is employed as director of tournament operations for the PGA of America, Illinois Section. The couple reside in Chicago.


Sturdevant Brummell

Samantha Sturdevant and Jamie Brummell, both of Lawrence, were married Sept. 29, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence, with the Rev. Gary Teske officiating The bride is the daugther of Richard Sturdevant and Olene Tilley, both of Lawrence. The groom is the son of Allan and Jan Brummell, Lawrence. Maid of honor was Amy Kennedy, and the best man was Gabe Hopkins. Bridesmaids were Allison Unruh, Elizabeth Willette and Kandi Banta. Groomsmen were Robert Jenson, Mike Finnegan and Scott Boring. Ushers were Logan Hastings and Adam McDiffett. Lisa Evans and Kelli Kennedy were guest book attendants. A reception followed the ceremony at Steve's Place in Lawrence. The bride is a 1998 graduate of Lawrence High School and a 2002 graduate of Kansas State University. She received a master's degree in social work from Washburn University in 2007 and is a social worker at St. Francis Comprehensive Cancer Center in Topeka. The groom is a 1995 graduate of Lawrence High School, a 2000 graduate of K-State and a 2004 graduate of Washburn University. He is a registered nurse in the Lawrence Memorial Hospital emergency department. The couple reside in Lawrence.


Rexwinkle and Swinney

Ken and Kerry Swinney, Fredonia, announce the engagement of their daughter, Adrianne Swinney, to Blaine Rexwinkle, both of Lawrence. He is the son of Justin and Lori Rexwinkle, South Coffeyville, Okla. Adrianne is a 2002 graduate of Fredonia High School and received her nursing degree in 2006 from Mary Grimes School of Nursing at Neosho County Community College. She is a labor and delivery nurse at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Blaine is a 2002 graduate of Oklahoma Union High School and is working on a sports administration degree. He also is employed by AT&T Mobility. The couple plan an April 26, 2008, wedding at First United Methodist Church in Fredonia.


Sauer and Gillman

Bruce and Diana Sauer of Lawrence announce the engagement of their daughter, Jaime Lynn Sauer, to L. Michael Gillman, both of Lawrence. He is the son of Lonnie and Lynda Gillman, Bartlesville, Okla. Jaime is a 1997 graduate of Lawrence High School and attended Johnson County Community College. She is an assistant branch manager at Capitol Federal Savings Bank. Michael is a 1998 graduate of Bartlesville High School and received his bachelor's degree in elementary education from Haskell Indian Nations University in 2004. He received a master's degree in liberal arts from Baker University in 2006 and is employed by the Lawrence school district. The couple plan a Dec. 15, 2007, wedding at the Lawrence Free Methodist Church.


Betzen and Bal

Robert and Karen Bal, Fort Myers, Fla., and Stephen and Terry Betzen, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their children, Sarah E. Bal, Fort Myers, and Mark S. Betzen, Lawrence. Sarah graduated from Estero High School in Fort Myers and is pursuing a degree in graphic design at the Nashville Academy of Art and Design. She is employed by Schneider engineering firm and is an intern with Muzikmafia record label. Mark graduated from Lawrence High School in 2003 and is pursuing a degree at Middle Tennessee State University in Nashville. He is employed by Federal-Mogul Corp. The couple plan a Dec. 15, 2007, wedding at First Assembly South Church in Fort Myers.
