James "Bud" and Rosalie Banks, rural Lecompton, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. James Banks and Rosalie Rogers were married May 12, 1957, in Lecompton. They are graduates of Lecompton Rural High School. Bud served in the U.S. Air Force, worked for Penny's Ready Mix and retired after 36 years with FMC Corp., now ICL, in Lawrence. Rosalie attended Clark's Business School in Topeka and worked at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s plant in Topeka before becoming a homemaker. They still operate a cow and calf operation on the family farm. Their children are Becky Pekrul, Topeka; and Rhonda Banks, Gina Clement and James R. Banks Jr., all of Lecompton. They have six grandchildren. A family celebration is planned for later this year.

Landis

Armin and Louise Landis, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary May 11 with family. They also will be recognized at a reception after the 10 a.m. service Sunday at Heartland Community Church, 619 Vt. Armin Landis and Louise Steele were married May 11, 1947, at Syracuse Baptist Church in Syracuse, Mo. Armin is a lifelong resident of Lawrence. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1939 and received a Bachelor of Arts in business at Kansas University in 1943 and was a member of Navy ROTC. During World War II, he served for two years in the South Pacific as a lieutenant in the Navy. After the war, he worked at Trans World Airlines in Kansas City, where he met Louise. Louise graduated from high school in Syracuse, attended Warrensburg State Teachers College, and taught school near home before moving to Kansas City in 1946 to work for TWA. Shortly after the wedding they returned to Lawrence and purchased the Davis Paint Associate store. They operated the business for 37 years until retiring in 1983. Their children are Armin Landis and wife Nancy, Oskaloosa; Alan Landis and wife Carol, Lawrence; and Mark Landis and wife Renee, Camdenton, Mo. They have five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Miller

Vincent and Ruth Miller, Eudora, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a family gathering on Sunday. Vincent G. Miller and Ruth M. Whitton were married May 16, 1942, at the United Brethren Church in Kansas City, Kan. Vincent served in the U.S. Army Air Corps after college and was a pilot during World War II. He then worked for Sunshine Biscuits Co. for many years as a route salesman. Before retirement, he also was a sales representative for Mutual of Omaha Insurance. Ruth worked at Kaw Valley State Bank in Eudora for 20 years and retired as a vice president. The couple have lived in Eudora since 1951. They have three children: April Bascom, Marana, Ariz.; and David Miller and Karla Pierce, both of Eudora; and two grandchildren.

Dennis taught at Phillipsburg High School, Atchison High School and retired from Lawrence High School, where he taught mathematics for 28 years. Janet was a homemaker and worked in the food service department for Lawrence public schools. They have lived in Lawrence since 1967. Their children are Danette Umholtz, Lawrence; Diane Spearman, Tulsa, Okla.; Darren Rorabaugh, Fairbanks, Alaska; Don Rorabaugh, Carlton, Ore.; and Dale Rorabaugh, Lawrence. They have 16 grandchildren.

Ron and Carolyn Lang, Lawrence, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary May 28. A luncheon and reception will be given Sunday at Alvamar Country Club. They were married May 28, 1967, in Topeka. They have lived in Lawrence since 1967. Ron received a Bachelor of Science in education and a Master of Science in education administration, both from Kansas University. For two years, the couple lived in Roswell, N.M., where Ron was head basketball coach at Roswell High School and the New Mexico Military Institute. He has taught English at Lawrence High School for 36 years, and was head basketball coach for four years. He is retiring at the end of the current school year. Carolyn attended KU and worked as secretary to the vice president at Security National Bank in Roswell. She worked at KU for 30 years, serving in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the chancellor's office and the Natural History Museum. She retired in 1997. Their children are Shaun Lang and wife Luann, Los Angeles, who will host Sunday's reception; and Errin Lang, Lawrence. They have two grandchildren.

Dean Elliott and JoAnn Coffman were married June 1, 1957, at North Lawrence Christian Church. Dean graduated from Lawrence High School in 1955. He worked for FMC for 45 years and retired in 2000. JoAnn graduated from LHS in 1957. She was a floral and wedding coordinator for 15 years and retired in 1998. Their children are Rusty Elliot and wife Christine; Randy Elliot; Bruce Elliot and wife Heidi; and Brian Elliot, all of Lawrence. They have five grandsons. The couple request no gifts.

Don and Sandy Nease, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 2. They also will take a cruise to Alaska with family in August. They were married June 2, 1957, at Danforth Chapel, Kansas University. They returned to Lawrence for retirement in 1998. Don was director of a graduate program in strategic intelligence at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. He is an adjunct instructor in the social sciences at Highland Community College's Perry Campus. Sandy was an administrative assistant with the Department of Veterans Affairs' Psychology Service in Dayton. She retired in 1994. Their son is Dr. Don Nease Jr. and wife Emily, Ann Arbor, Mich. They have two grandchildren.
