Carl and Peggy Silvers, rural Lawrence, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their children from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 14 at the Lone Star Church of the Brethren, 883 E. 800 Road. Carl Silvers and Peggy Caruthers were married April 14, 1957, at First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. Carl worked at the Lawrence Paper Co. and then in construction until he retired in 1987. Peggy worked as a secretary first at the Lawrence Paper Co. and then after raising her family worked for First Presbyterian Church until she retired in 1988. Their children are Cathy Silvers, Peabody; Steven Silvers, Lawrence; and Bradley Silvers and family, Topeka. They have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The couple request no gifts.

Beth graduated from Lawrence High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in English teaching degree from Brigham Young University in 2006. She is employed as a substitute teacher in the Lawrence school district. Tim graduated from Phillipsburg High School and is pursuing degrees in mechanical engineering and business at Kansas University. He will be employed as a reservoir engineer for ExxonMobil in Houston beginning in June. The couple reside in Lawrence.

Kimberlin

John and Carolyn Kimberlin, Austin, Colo., celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary by spending a weekend in the Denver area. John Kimberlin and Carolyn Snook were married March 11, 1967, at McLouth Methodist Church. They moved from McLouth to Colorado in 2002. Their children are Cara Kimberlin, Lawrence; Denise and Mike Mestagh, rural McLouth; and Michael and Tenille Kimberlin, Meriden. The couple also will renew their vows when their children visit Colorado this summer. They have three grandchildren and another grandson on the way.

Lyle Young and Faye Hysell were married on April 10, 1947, at Ellsworth Presbyterian Church. They have lived in Lawrence since 1955. Lyle was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1984. Faye served in the Cadet Nurses Corps and graduated from the Ellsworth School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She worked for the Reed Medical Group for 17 years and retired in 1984. Their children are Bob Young and wife Sherry, Topeka; and Barbara Innes and husband Bob, Overland Park. They have four grandchildren.
