Walker

Norman and Mary Walker, Tonganoxie, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday. Mary DeHoff and Norman Walker were married Aug. 31, 1946, at Barlow Chapel in Lawrence. The couple have two children, Rita Walker Bailey and Gary Walker, both of Tonganoxie; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Eddie, died in 1971. Norman Walker owned and operated Walker Trucking until 1993. He then drove for Kindle Sand and Gravel and retired in 2004. Mary Walker retired from Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

M.L. "Bood" and Georgie Stebbins, Perry, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Thursday. M.L. Stebbins and Georgie Petrie were married Sept. 7, 1946, at the Methodist church in Bonner Springs. M.L. served two years in the 88th Blue Devil Division, 350th Infantry Regiment, in Italy during World War II. He worked in real estate for 26 years in the Topeka and Lawrence areas, retiring in 1994. He also worked as a custodian and bus driver for 45 years in the Perry-Lecompton school district. After graduating from the Reppert School of Auctioneering in 1949, he and Georgie opened Stebbins Auction Service. They retired in 2003. Georgie worked several years at the Bank of Perry. Dale and Wanda Kring, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Eldridge Hotel. They were married Sept. 2, 1956, in Bronson. The Krings have lived in Lawrence for 48 years. Dale founded Parsons & Kring Floor Covering with his partner, Lou Parsons. Wanda retired from the Clerk of the Douglas County District Court's Office after 23 years of service. They also had a three-day celebration in August with friends from 12 states. They were married Aug. 19, 1956, in Russell. They are graduates of Russell High School. Jane earned degrees from Kansas University and Arizona State University. Bob attended KU and earned degrees from Arizona State. He completed graduate studies at Indiana University. Bob is a former Volkswagen dealer and is involved in the ownership of two retail centers in Lawrence.

Bob and Norma Jean Nixon, Bullhead City, Ariz., formerly of Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner today. They were married Sept. 9, 1956, at the First Methodist Church in Lawrence with the Rev. Jim Nabors officiating. Bob worked for the Lawrence fire department for 13 years. He also was a dealer of Wausau Homes for many years. In December 2003, he retired from Steve Eudaly Construction. Norma was a member of Lawrence Womens Bowling Assn. for many years. She retired in 2002 after working in the business office at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for 23 years. The moved to Bullhead City in January 2003 after living all of their married life in Lawrence. Their son Tim Nixon and his wife, Amy, live in South Jordan, Utah. They also have a grandson.
