She is a refining engineer at Marathon Petroleum near New Orleans. The future groom is the son of Daniel and Sharon Harvick, North Little Rock, Ark. He graduated from Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas. He received a bachelor's degree in sociology from Texas Tech University in 1990. He is an area manager for Hertz Corp. in New Orleans. S. Lucky and Pam DeFries, Topeka, announce the engagement of their daughter, Ashley DeFries, to Justin Blumreich, son of Dorothy and Dr. Doug Iliff and Craig and Beth Blumreich, all of Topeka. The future bride is the granddaughter of Dr. Stanley and Alice Jo DeFries, Lawrence. She is a student at Washburn University, where she is studying radiology and ultrasound. Gene and JoAnn Van Hoesen, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 11 at the Lawrence Visitors Center at the Union Pacific Depot. Friends and family are welcome. Gene Van Hoesen and JoAnn Churchbaugh were married April 10, 1946, in Colorado Springs at the home of his parents. They later moved to Albuquerque, N.M., returning to Lawrence in 1951. Gene served in the Pacific as a Motor Machinist Mate Second Class for the Navy during World War II. His professional career was spent with Farmland Industries, retiring in 1986 after 31 years of service. JoAnn is a homemaker, having worked retail for several gardening shops in Lawrence. She is a former chairwoman of the Kansas University Host Family program and volunteer for the Lawrence Memorial Auxiliary. Gene and JoAnn remain active with the Kaw Valley Blue Bird Assn. Their children are Bob and Barbara Van Hoesen and Les and Cheryl Harrod, all of Lawrence. They have four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The couple request no gifts.
Stan and Maggie Harris, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at the Lawrence Country Club. They were married June 3, 1956, at the First United Methodist Church in St. John. Stan worked as an architect and was a partner in PKG Design Group before retiring in 1993. Maggie is a homemaker and worked for Dr. Walters and Reed as a medical office manager. Their family includes a daughter Lisa and her husband, Joe Cornwell, St. John, and four grandchildren.
Donald and Marylin Landis, Mission, Texas, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 11 at the American Legion in Baldwin. Donald Landis and Marylin Osmonson were married June 8, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. Donald is a graduate of Liberty Memorial High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a farmer and retired from Lawrence Ready Mix. Marylin graduated from Redford High School. She worked for General Motors in Detroit, Baker University and the Baldwin Ledger. Their children are Darleen and Randy Shaffer, Lawrence; Roger and Tracy Landis, Eudora; Karen and David Suddarth, Olathe; Doyle Landis, Englewood, Fla.; and Gary and Steffenie Landis, Huntington Beach, Calif. They have 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The couple request no gifts.
Edwin and Merry Webb, Aloha, Ore., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday. Edwin Webb and Merry Johnson were married June 2, 1956, at Danforth Chapel on Kansas University's campus. Ed has retired from the Xerox Corp. and Merry is retired from the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. Their children are Richard Webb, Renton, Wash.; Eileen Webb, Tigard, Ore.; and Donna Cicirchi, Portland, Ore. They also have three grandchildren.
Terri and Bill Pippert, Lawrence, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a family trip this month to Costa Rico. Terri Wells and Bill Pippert were married May 31, 1981, in Mulvane. Bill graduated from Lawrence High School in 1972 and works for LRM Industries Inc. as equipment division manager. He is the son of Albert and Betty Pippert, Lawrence. Terri attended Wichita State University and Kansas University. She is the vice president and branch manager for US Bank. She is the daughter of Don and Wanda Wells, Mulvane, who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on the Costa Rico trip as well. They have two children, Tyler Pippert, Lawrence, and Nickolas Pippert, of the home.

The groom is a 1998 graduate of Stanberry High School. He received a bachelor's degree in business management and marketing in 2002 from Northwest Missouri State University. He is an account associate with Recover Care. The couple reside in Lenexa.
