Van Hoesen

Gene and JoAnn Van Hoesen, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 11 at the Lawrence Visitors Center at the Union Pacific Depot. Friends and family are welcome. Gene Van Hoesen and JoAnn Churchbaugh were married April 10, 1946, in Colorado Springs at the home of his parents. They later moved to Albuquerque, N.M., returning to Lawrence in 1951. Gene served in the Pacific as a Motor Machinist Mate Second Class for the Navy during World War II. His professional career was spent with Farmland Industries, retiring in 1986 after 31 years of service. JoAnn is a homemaker, having worked retail for several gardening shops in Lawrence. She is a former chairwoman of the Kansas University Host Family program and volunteer for the Lawrence Memorial Auxiliary. Gene and JoAnn remain active with the Kaw Valley Blue Bird Assn. Their children are Bob and Barbara Van Hoesen and Les and Cheryl Harrod, all of Lawrence. They have four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The couple request no gifts.

They were married June 3, 1956, at the First United Methodist Church in St. John. Stan worked as an architect and was a partner in PKG Design Group before retiring in 1993. Maggie is a homemaker and worked for Dr. Walters and Reed as a medical office manager. Their family includes a daughter Lisa and her husband, Joe Cornwell, St. John, and four grandchildren.

Ed has retired from the Xerox Corp. and Merry is retired from the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. Their children are Richard Webb, Renton, Wash.; Eileen Webb, Tigard, Ore.; and Donna Cicirchi, Portland, Ore. They also have three grandchildren.

Bill graduated from Lawrence High School in 1972 and works for LRM Industries Inc. as equipment division manager. He is the son of Albert and Betty Pippert, Lawrence. Terri attended Wichita State University and Kansas University. She is the vice president and branch manager for US Bank. She is the daughter of Don and Wanda Wells, Mulvane, who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on the Costa Rico trip as well. Charles and Anna Laskowski, Lawrence, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Friday. Charles Laskowski and Anna Paduch were married June 16, 1941, at St. Joseph's Church in Kansas City, Kan. They spent 22 years traveling the country as Charles served in the U.S. Marine Corps. They retired to Lawrence in 1959. Charles worked for the Kansas University Police Department until his retirement in 1979. Jim and Jean Stokes, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with family and then plan to take a trip to the Canadian Rockies in August. Jim Stokes and Jean Strout were married June 29, 1946, in Concord, Mass. Jim graduated from North Carolina State University. He retired in 1982 after more than 35 years with the DuPont Co. He served in the U.S. Navy. He has done various volunteer work and currently serves on the advisory board for the executive director at Presbyterian Manor. Jean completed the Chamberlain School of Retail in Boston in 1943. She then worked at Filenes in Boston. She also has done volunteer work, most recently at Lawrence Memorial Hospital South. She is a member of P.E.O. Their children are Jim and Jackie Stokes, Bettendorf, Iowa, and Suzi Koelling, Wichita. They have four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Roy and Maxine Mayhew, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary July 13. They were married July 13, 1956, in the First Congregational Church in Seneca. They moved from Marysville to Lawrence in 1977. Roy served his Army tour of duty in Korea from 1953 to 1955. Then he worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 39 years, retiring in 1994. Harold was raised near Montrose, Mo., and retired from the City of Tonganoxie. Connie was raised near Montrose, Iowa, and worked for the State of Kansas and is a volunteer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. They remain active with the Tonganoxie Historical Society and are charter life members of the VFW and its Auxiliary. Their children are Stanley and Audrey Putthoff, Fulton Mo.; Cindy Putthoff, Summerville, S.C.; Terry and Brenda Putthoff, Parkville, Mo.; and Kerry and Treasa Putthoff, Tonganoxie.
