Janice graduated from Jamestown Community College in Jamestown, N.Y., and Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. She earned a master's degree at Kansas University. Don served parishes in Bemidji, Minn., and Lindsborg. He served as Lutheran campus pastor at KU for 27 years before retiring in 1992. After retirement, he has filled in for pastoral vacancies in churches in the Kansas City area, Topeka, Wichita and Emporia. Janice was a teacher in the Lawrence schools for 12 years and worked part time at KU. Their children are David and Pollyann Conrad, Olathe; Julie and Harmon Abrahamson, Grand Forks, N.D.; Anne and Alan Hagemen, Topeka; and the Rev. John and Ellen Conrad, Redondo Beach, Calif. They have 12 grandchildren.
