J. Herman and Martina L. Hess, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Jan. 21. They were married Jan. 21, 1956, in Osawatomie. Herman retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation in June 1991 after 30 years of service. In 1991, Martina retired from Weaver's department store after 35 years of service. Martina also was the organist for the Clinton Presbyterian Church for more than 20 years.
