Bill and Elizabeth Stephens, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family gatherings at a buffet Nov. 18 at the Eldridge Hotel, a barbecue luncheon Nov. 19 at their home, and a reception for family and the congregation Nov. 19 at Trinity Episcopal Church. They were married Nov. 19, 1946, at the Presbyterian church in Denton, Texas, and have lived in Lawrence for 40 years. Bill served in the Navy during World War II and worked for the Reuter Organ Co. and independently as an organ builder and technician. Elizabeth retired from the Kansas University Libraries and has been organist at Trinity Church for 35 years. Their children are Jay and Marilyn Stephens, Honey Grove, Texas; Cecily and Bob Overby, Pittsburg; Guy and Janet Stephens, Aurora, Ill.; Shirley and Stu Mock, Golden, Colo.; and Amy Monroy, Kansas City, Kan. They have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

George and Frances Goff, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at their home, 1044 E. 1200 Road. George Goff and Frances Lynn were married Dec. 11, 1956. George was employed by All Star Dairy for seven years and by FMC for 33 years, retiring as shift supervisor. Frances retired from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after 23 years. Their children are George and Barb Goff, Baldwin; Vicki Goff Miller and husband, John, Lawrence; and Sheron Eaden, Topeka. They have seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Roy and Gloria Pennel, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception Nov. 4 at First Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence. Roy Pennel and Gloria Borgstadt were married Nov. 10, 1956, at The Concordia Baptist Church in Concordia, Mo. They lived in Windsor, Mo., for more than eight years. Roy took a job with Sears, and the couple moved to Mexico, Mo. Sears transferred him, and they moved to Lawrence in 1965. The Pennels owned and operated Pennel Electric for more than 30 years. They have two children, Annette Pennel and Mark Pennel, who helped in the business. Hosts of the reception were Mark and Ann Pennel. The Pennels have two grandchildren.

Ralph E. and Mary A. Reschke, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception Dec. 30 at the Eldridge Hotel followed by a Mass of Thanksgiving at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. They also vacationed in San Francisco and nearby area in July. Ralph Reschke and Mary Ramsey were married Dec. 29, 1956, at St. Mary's Church in Dawson, Neb. Ralph graduated from Fairview High School in Fairview and studied engineering for three years at Kansas University. He was employed by Hallmark Cards Inc. in Lawrence for 40 years, working in machinery maintenance. He also worked overseas for Hallmark and retired in 2000. Mary graduated from Dawson High School in Dawson, Neb., and from Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha, Neb. She was employed at Kansas University, the Lawrence school district and for 26 years at Hallmark Cards. She retired in 2005. Hosts of the reception will be their children and grandchildren. Their children are Ralph Reschke Jr., Arvada, Colo.; Christine and Joel Fritzel; Cindy and Gary Aldridge; and Tom and Trenda Reschke, all of Lawrence. They have eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The couple attended the Archdiocesan Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebration Mass on June 11, 2006, at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Kansas City, Kan., with Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann officiating. More than 100 couples attended the Mass and reception.

Don and Mary Kay Craig, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family at a dinner on Dec. 16. Their children were hosts of the event. Don Craig and Mary Kay Hill were married Dec. 15, 1956, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. Mary Kay graduated from Lawrence High School. She was employed at Massachusetts Bonding and Insurance Co. in Dallas and Montgomery Ward, W.A. Dunbar Excavating and M.D. Craig Construction, all in Lawrence. She retired in 2004. Don graduated from Lawrence High School. He worked as a heavy equipment operator on the construction of the Kansas Turnpike, Tuttle Creek Dam and the Air Force Academy in Colorado before returning to Lawrence in 1958. In 1973, he became a project manager and estimator for W.A. Dunbar Excavating and an owner of Asphalt Improvement Co. He joined R.D. Johnson Excavating in 1993 and now is managing Asphalt Improvement Co. Don raced modified and sprint cars on many dirt tracks in the Midwest from 1960 to 1979. Chuck and Jo Miller, rural Oskaloosa, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family gathering at the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Mo., and a party in Oskaloosa. They were married Dec. 21, 1956, in St. Marys, and have lived in rural Oskaloosa since then. The couple farmed for several years and were owners of Miller Excavating for 25 years. They also had the country band "Honeycreek" for 25 years. Chuck now has a cattle operation at the farm, and Jo is a homemaker and is working part time at Parker's in Oskaloosa. Norman Musick and Darlene Workman were married Jan. 12, 1957, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence. Norman graduated from Lawrence High School and retired in 2003 as service manager for Deems Farm Equipment after 43 years. Darlene also graduated from LHS and was assistant vice president at Kaw Valley Bank, Eudora, for 38 years. She retired in 2002. Owen graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, Mo. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Kansas University in engineering. He retired from the Kansas Geological Survey in 1998 after 33 years of service. Connie graduated from Lawrence High School and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in art education from KU.
