JJ and Jeanne Underwood, Lawrence, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Jimmie Jack Underwood and Jeanne Stringfellow were married July 21, 1955, at Fort Hamilton Chapel in Brooklyn, N.Y. JJ was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He started a dental practice in Lawrence in 1957. Jeanne was a dental hygienist. They are both retired. Jeanne's mom, Charlotte Dominique, resides with them. Their children are Jim and Peggy Underwood, Lawrence; Jane and Carl Culbertson, Lawrence; Lori and Jeff Underwood, Great Bend; and John and Anne Underwood, Baldwin. They also have nine grandchildren.

Robert and Margaret Jane Sexton, Lawrence, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends in Lawrence. They were married July 5, 1945, in Lawrence. After a brief tenure in South Gate, Calif., the couple returned to Lawrence in 1949. Robert was an electrician for several companies in the Lawrence area until 1958, when he started his career as a business agent for Local No. 226 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He became primary agent in 1963. He was promoted to international labor representative in 1969 and became president and co-founder of Electrical Corporation of America in 1971. He retired in 1986. Margaret Jane is a homemaker and near lifelong resident of Lawrence. Their children are Connie and Terry Vogt, Stone Mountain, Ga., and Terry and Kathy Sexton, Lawrence. They have two grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
