Couples announcements for January 2005




Louis and Jane Frydman, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday. Louis Frydman and Jane Brunner were married Dec. 26, 1954, at the Tavern on the Green in Central Park in New York City. Louis was a professor of social welfare at Kansas University from 1969 to 2000. Jane was a Lawrence attorney from 1978 to 2000. Their children are Dan Frydman, St. Joseph, Mo., and John Frydman and Rick Frydman, both of Lawrence. They have five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.



Claude and LaVonne Shawley, Linwood, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary Monday. Claude Shawley and LaVonne Homeier were married Jan. 3, 1965, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wilson. LaVonne has been employed at NCS Pearson in Lawrence for the past six years. Claude was employed by the Kansas Department of Transportation as a senior engineering technician. He retired after 34 years of service. Their children are Brenda Shawley and David Shawley, Lawrence. They have six grandchildren.



Betty and Glen O'Connor, rural Lawrence, are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary today with a family dinner. Betty Wulfkuhle and Glen O'Connor were married Jan. 1, 1945. Their children are Kenneth and Patty O'Connor, and Brenda and Mitch Sexton, all of rural Lawrence. They have four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.



Jere and G. June Neibarger will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary Sunday. Jere Neibarger and June Lesser were married Jan. 9, 1965, in the Congregational Church in Tonganoxie. Their children are Katrina Rodriguez, Indianapolis; Anna White, Lawrence; and Derek Neibarger, Lawrence. They have seven grandchildren.



Duane and Margie Miller, Lawrence, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a reception at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Union Pacific Depot. Family and friends are invited. The couple were married Jan. 11, 1980, in Lawrence. Hosts for the reception will be Ronald and Linda Lash.



Walter and Pat Rockhold, Baldwin, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Friday. The couple were married Jan. 14, 1955, at the First Methodist Church in Baldwin. They have two sons, Allen Rockhold and Gary Rockhold, and two grandchildren.



Lyle and Elizabeth Votaw, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 16 at the home of Don and Beverly Gardner, 3209 Yellowstone Drive in Lawrence. Lyle Votaw and Elizabeth Leach were married Jan. 5, 1955, in Mexico, Mo. Lyle was employed at All Star Dairy, formerly known as Lawrence Sanitary, for 42 years. After retiring, he worked for Douglas County Maintenance for 13 years. Elizabeth worked at the fountain in Raney's drug store for several years before it closed. The reception will be given by their children, Don and Beverly Gardner, Lawrence; Lynn and Anna Votaw, Ottawa; and Linda Nelson, Baldwin; and their two grandchildren. The couple request no gifts.



Carol Lynn Taylor and Donald Keith Taylor, Wauchula, Fla., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family gathering in Florida. They were married Jan. 3, 1955, in Eureka Springs, Ark. They lived in Lawrence from 1957 to 1977 then moved to the Lone Star Lake area. Don worked for DuPont in Tecumseh from 1959 until 1987. He also worked part-time for Anderson Rentals in Lawrence. After retiring from DuPont, he worked two years at Lawrence Paper Co. Carol was a homemaker and had a day care. She later worked for the Lawrence Holidome and Kansas Color Press. After traveling for more than a year across the country in their motor home, they relocated to Wauchula, Fla., in 1996. Their children are Mitchell Taylor, Mechanicsburg, Ohio; Teresa Latimer, Overland Park; Gregory Taylor, Gardner; and Bradley Taylor, Denver. They have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.



Bette and Bud Lukens, Lawrence, celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary Sunday. They were married Jan. 9, 1942, in Pasadena, Calif. The wedding party attended a nightclub where Tommy Dorsey and Frank Sinatra were entertaining. They have lived in Lawrence since 1954. Their daughters are Cindi Miller and Kathleen Mellor. They have four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.



Robert R. and Dorothy Jean Bigsby, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday with a family dinner. They were married Jan. 23, 1945, in Lawrence. Robert and Dorothy are graduates of Liberty Memorial High School. They have owned and operated a dairy farm south of Lawrence for 50 years. Their children are Karen Carlin, Lenexa; Carol Keen, Baldwin; and Robert Bigsby Jr., Baldwin. They have four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.



Robert and Caroline Hein, Topeka, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday. They were married Jan. 30, 1955, in Wichita. Robert attended Kansas University. They raised their family in Wichita and Derby. Both were employed by Boeing Co. After retiring in the mid-1990s, they moved to Topeka. Their children are Scot Hein, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Melinda Fish, Lawrence. They have three grandchildren.
