Leonard and Joan Alcala, Georgetown, Texas, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary today. They were married Dec. 24, 1955, in Kansas City, Kan. The couple previously lived in Oskaloosa. Leonard was a roofer for Western Roofing Co. of Kansas City, Mo. Joan worked at Hallmark Cards in Lawrence for 30 years. Their children are Michael "Tony" Alcala, Lamar, Mo.; Leonard "Gene" and Barbara Alcala, Kansas City, Kan.; and Gwenda and Rodney Bruce, Hutto, Texas. Robert and Patricia Biszantz, Lawrence, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Jan. 3. The couple were married Jan. 3, 1981, in Key West, Fla. Robert, originally from Ohio, is a retired Chief Warrant Officer from the U.S. Coast Guard. Patricia, born and raised in Key West, Fla., works as a civilian for the Coast Guard in Topeka. The couple met when Robert was stationed in Key West in 1980 during the Mariel Boatlift. They have two children, Heather Meehan, California, and Sandi Biszantz, Florida, and two grandchildren.
